Greetings:
I have just visited the local dealership regarding the purchase of a
toad for my GMC. Apparently the manual hubs are no longer offered,
so.... I looked in the owners manual and it said that the car can be
towed four wheels down for a distance of 200 miles at speeds not in
excess of 55 mph. As we are planning in travelling this fall we are
looking at a purchase in the near future and am looking for some advice.
Has anyone on the list towed a newer style Tracker ie: '99/'00
The worst part is, the wife says I am going to have to trade in my
'88 Jag V12. Oh well, at least the gas mileage will improve.
As always, any help and info will be appreciated.

Jim - I'd be tempted to figure out a way to tow the Jag. Is it a stick shift?

If its an automatic you might be able to use the Remco driveshaft
coupler in order to tow it on all 4 wheels.

Do you know how much an XJS Jag weighs? With that engine and weight maybe
it ought to tow the GMC.

Jim - I'd be tempted to figure out a way to tow the Jag. Is it a stick

The Jag is a 4door sedan and weighs over two tons(well over) so we
need to lighten the load on the motorhome, but thanks for the
suggestion. : )

Bob - I've driven on in the past and I doubt that it weighs any more
than the Jeep CJ7 that I've towed for several years. (about 4500
pounds). Of course, I think that it is too heavy and I'll probably
opt for a lighter toad some time in the future. Obviously, the
lighter, the better.

It always amazes me how much the "real" Jeeps weigh. My Cherokee is approx.
3200 pounds. The unibody consruction is why the "purists" say it "ain't a
REAL Jeep".

I have owned my 2000 Tracker for 3 weeks or so. I bought a mounting plate
for the front which did not match the tow bar I have. Demco is going to
fabricate me a replacement (24" centers) for me at no charge. Make sure
that your tow bar is adjustable.(email me if you dont understand what I said
above).

My understanding is the same as yours. Dealer didn't know anything about
towing. I looked in the book. I have not hooked up yet but I did test
Patricks suggestion that the odometer doesnt tick when ignition is on. I
coasted with enging in accessory position for 1/2 mile and did not get any
change in the odometer! Patrick was right.

I am expecting my new mounting bar front plate in about 7-10 days and will
let you know how it goes.

I would be happy to take good care of the Jag for you if you want to use my
Tracker!

My two door 2000 tracker weighs in at 2800lbs. Appears to be emminantly
towable, though I havent tried yet.
