Scott---
Lots of good pictures --- good reference for those of us who are not quite so
thorough on our fix-it-up endeavors. Yes, it is a little slow to load but don't
ask me about how to speed it up; you need one of the experts like Arch or
Patrick. Anyway, I was just ready to cut you a support check but since you
didn't post an address I gave it to my wife instead.

Scott:

I visited your web site. It does load slow, but I'm sure it's related
to the file size for the pictures that load. As far as I know, anything
you can do to get a smaller file size would help, like saving them in a
different graphics file type.

The five pictures after the one with the boat in it are not loading? I
like all the other pictures.

Downloading is possible by right clicking on a given picture, although I
haven't tried any yet.

The only link I see is to send you an e-mail. After I clicked on it I
got an error message that a fatal error occurred and the program would
close. However, I need to try linking at another time as I don't know
if the trouble is on my end or not.

I'll probably get my knuckles wrapped, but here goes:

I actually like the no thumnail when a page is so the same topic as Scott's
is currently :-)
The one problem with thumbnails is that you can't 'browse' through the whole
layout of a topic. Granted, it's a while to load, but once loaded it's
really nice, really nice. After seeing Scotts I'm probably going to add full
size to mine again for certain things, i.e. a specific topic. (but I won't
get rid of thumbnails :-) The lead-in will forwarn so that the impatient
won't get frustrated.

Websites are like GMC's... never satisfied with current status... just gotta

You're welcome! A little over a year ago, there were no web sites
dedicated to the GMC. This is what it's all about - getting the
information out there.

I went back in a second time to each of the below URLs and all of the

Hi guys ( and gals :-) [just in case :-]

What you've experienced is a glitch in the scheme of things. Not sure how or
why, but there are times when the browser (any/most browsers) thinks it has
everything, i.e. it's "done" but it really hasn't got it all.

I've experienced this problem off and on with a number of sites. Don't know
if it's traffic related or?

Some browsers have a setting as to how many "channels" they use or can use
at the same time. (That's what makes your browser load different areas all
at same time)
If your browser has that adjustment you can try and increase/decrease the
setting. More is not always better as it still has to go down the same
bottleneck, i.e. modem.

Scott: it sometimes helps to put some extra text on the bottom of the page
so that the tail-end isn't graphic.

I suspect that the problem might not be with Scotts
site, rather that Your computers are running low on
resources, or Your ISP is running low on bandwidth.
I think that when, Your on the net there are only a
few things affecting speed. Your modem is the first
thing.Computer Memory next. I dont think CPU speed
matters much because of the bottleneck with the
modem. System resources on the other hand make a
great diffrence. I find that if I leave the computer
on all day then get on the net, Everything moves
real slow....Rebooting helps alot in this case.
Just my thoughts, based only on My experiences. But
I have been online since 1981. And You think 33.6 is
slow. Try 300Baud sometime.

I have tried this site many times. All I get is an AOL page with
background wallpaper and it blows my Netscape system. It worked on
Monday when I first tried it but not now. Very useful pictures too.

Same here, Ted. But I can fire up MS Internet Explorer and can see the
pics. It's still not right because I have to scroll over to the right but
at least their visible. I'm sure Scott'll get it figured out perty quick.
I figure it's an 'AOL thing'.

I just went to the site and it opened again without incident. I use MS

Scott,

There are two sites that you might want to visit. 1)
http://www.gifwizard.com will analyze your graphics (once for free)
and optimize the file for you. You can view many alternatives and
pick the one you like. I was amazed at how much faster my site
loaded without any degradation in quality. Of course there are
packages that you can purchase. 2) At
http://www.websitegarage.com you can tune up your whole site for
free. The program analyzes graphic load time, browser
compatibility, valid/bad links, link popularity (the number of sites,
including search engines, linking to you), spelling, marketability
(key words & description) etc.

Both these are free (at least for the lite version!) Of course, they
want you to buy the heavy version! Try them. You'll get all the
feedback you want and then some!
