The Statpower true charge does not acts as a converter. It will keep the
batteries charged as you use twelve volt power in the coach while you
are plugged in to shore power. A converter will change 120v energy into
12v energy thus bypassing your batteries. If you are using more 12v
power than the converter can produce you will be using your battery
reserves. Only when you do not use the excess power does the
converter/charger charge the batteries. Most converters have a battery
charger built in to them but it does not charge them in a battery
friendly way. Darren

IMO, the "converter" vs. "charger" issue is often an exercise in semantics.
Cinnabar did a neat article in GMC Motorhome News on the TruCharge 40+ a
year or so ago including a neat demonstration on how the TruCharge handled
the charging/converting chores based on load. IMO, the TruCharge is more of
a "charger" in that it attends to the needs of the batteries by varying
voltage based on state of charge, while the original buzzbox is a
"converter" in that it puts out the same voltage contantly regardless
battery state of charge. They both accomplish the same thing when you turn
on a light while connected to AC shorepower - one just takes better care of
your batteries in the process.

Patrick,,, Thanks for the info.. I had thought that i rememberd the the
Statpower was the CW.. I didn't realize that it was both converter and
charger...They don't advertise as such.....but it makes sense..Will get the
recomended reading.... Gene before i ask a question of the net i will check
your excellent site first, can always get one side of an answer to my
question there..Thank you Henery Davis for your information on 12 volt
systems.. Am learning so much........ Thanks again Pat Morrison

but what do you mean one side ?? The rest of these guys are --nut balls,
Freaks, weirdos, and opinionated retrogrades --

whoops , that describes all of us.
