I've mentioned here before that I really like PL Adhesives & Sealants from
ChemRex in Shakopee, MN. IIRC both Home Depot & Lowes carry it. It's easy
to spot in its bright yellow tube with black & red stripes top & bottom.

It's a 1-part polyurethane which hardens to a very tough flexible
material. It adheres extremely well to everything I've tried it on except
polyethylene, to which nothing seems to stick. It is paintable but the
factory says let it dry for 7 days before coating with high-volatility
automotive finishes. Clean up -- right away -- is with paint thinner,
which makes it much easier to get a good bead than with silicone.

Its called different names dependent upon its color. White I think they
call Door & Sash Caulk, Black they call Roof & Flashing Sealant, Gray is
something like Grout or Concrete, I know they also have Brown but don't
know what it's called. The factory says it's all the same stuff except for
color.

I've used it to seal around the top and sides of my windshield, filling the
entire gap. Also filled the gap around the "rear door". I'm about to fill
the open vertical seam at the rear fiberglass cap and the joint at the top
of the beltline rail -- all in preparation for the new paint job in October.

If anyone knows anything bad about it I hope they'll speak up before I get
everything I own gooped up with it! NO MORE SILICONE!!!

Ken.....

I found some PL...Door and Sash Calk at my local hardware store and there
is supposed
to be one in black but it wasn't in stock....If I can't find anything else
then I'll use some
gray which they had and paint it after a few weeks. It may be the only
thing I can find.

Thanks for your help

On digest so this may be a little late. Could this be the 3-M Strip Caulk?
Still have a bit left over. Have emailed Les privately.

Ken.......

Today I went to Home Depot looking for PL Door & Sash Caulk but only found
it in clear and brown.
the local guy said the black stuff was Roof and Flashing Sealant and was
the same thing. I
took his word for it (a dangerous thing to do) and purchased a tube.

Took it home and used it to seal the top and side of the Co-Pilot side
window. Worked GREAT!
I now know what I'll use for that sort of thing in the future. I wish I
had known about this stuff
when I was working on my holding tank rubber connections.

Thanks again for your help.

The net comes through again!

Howdy Les Watson & GMCMH Netterites

Here is a link to Chemrex. Take a look at their Pro2000 product for RV use.
We have used quite a lot of their SL-1 product for saw-cut expansion joints
in concrete.

How to contact Chemrex;

Les, they have a manufacturing facility & warehouse in Brighton CO.

BAD LINK on the previous post. Try this one, click on
Industry/transportation/Go and read about Pro2000.

I didn't even know they had clear! I'm glad & will start trying to find it.

In this case you were OK -- notice my echo above. Personally, I think
they'd sell a lot more of the stuff if they'd change their label to make
obvious the fact that it's all the same except for color.

I've completely abandoned silicone with its low adhesion, non-paintablity,
and sun fading.

Isn't it great? I've replied like this so more folks will hear about & try
the PL.

Have a good day.

Thanks. I'd called them to check automotive paintablity & difference in
products by name but never checked for a web site.

Trouble is, I get an "... invalid ... selection ..." message from the
link. And I never did find a reference to the Pro2000. Is it just another
name for the same stuff we know by so many already?

Thanks, that works!

Sounds like the same stuff. Maybe I'll call & find out. It's probably too
hard to find the RV-labelled variety -- at cost more.

Use the "by Name" box and select "Adhesive-Sealant" and press "GO"
