As Arch mentioned in an earlier response, Caspro is the only source for the
Power Drive, the only transmission modified system type available for us
that changes the effective gear ratio. However, in case you were not aware,
there are several other ring and pinion gear sets available (i. e. 3.21,
3.42, 3.55, and 3.67:1) for the differential.

I have to pull my trans to seal a leak. I pull a 7000lbs car trailer. I
would like comments on pros and cons of this conversion verses a gear
change. Is Casro the only source for these gears?

Something for you guys to think about. Caspro says their drive adds about 50
HP. Mondello sells the new Edelbrock Performer aluminum heads for $1495
complete. With one buy you get 50 more horse power, lots of torque,no
pinging, no exhaust crossovers. Keep the stock 3.07 final drive and get all
of the benefits of the big gears with no other modification at all.
Something to think about.

Not sure I buy the Edelbrock heads idea. At what rpm does it maximize??
Probably not at the engine rpm's we run?? It's also pure theory at this
point, since we have no reports of an actual installation in our
application. We all know that most claimed benefits don't materialize.
Also, HP without an increase in available torque isn't going to buy
increased performance.

Installing fresh heads alone on an engine, let alone increased performance
one's, without corresponding work on the rest of the engine, is generally
known as asking for future engine trouble. It certainly isn't the "cure
all" or as cost effective as alleged. In conjunction with a complete engine
rebuild, may be a different story?? Not so with changing differential
gear's.

On the other hand, I have a 403 cid engine along with 3.42:1 ring and pinion
gear's. Yet in a convoy, I can run away from a 455 cid engined coach
w/3.07:1 gear's, on a long grade climb, even though it makes more horsepower
than the 403 cid engine. The reason is because under load (e. g. hill
climbing), the engine rpm's tend to fall off quicker with lower numerically
differential gears, and consequently torque drastically decays. Higher
numeric gears tend to help keep you at the top of the torque curve longer.
Caspro's literature says "In any vehicle, for a given engine and
transmission, the overall drive axle ratio is the one design variable which
most greatly affects performance and fuel economy".

So how does more available horsepower gain you better performance (e. g.
hill climbing ability)??? I'm from Missouri!!!

You are right---no questions about it. The numbers work. I am trying to be
as civil as I can. No put downs. I am still wondering what if----? Da** 3.7
gears, hot aluminum heads, nice cam, Springfield ignition, fuel injection
and what ever bet I can beat your butt. This is high school all over again.
I love it. Sure hope the fantasy makes us all live a little longer. We all
must meet on some lonely road and have the ladies give us the high sign to
run now that would be fun. This has been a good day----hope it was for all
you.
Arch Actually I like the ignition system Leigh has but it would be
hard to find somebody to work on it.
