Arch,
You might try the double sided tape for carpets on the hard spots. I got
some on my hands and had a devil of a time getting it off.{:>) It sticks.
You might also see what is used by marine companies to secure their carpet
to plywood flooring on boats. I used a spray adhesive on my boat on the
wood then on the carpet and let it set before laying the carpet. Sticks
good, also.

Arch - when I recarpeted I bought some carpet cement from a carpet
store. It is a latex based product (water cleanup). I glued carpet
to plywood, wood, steel and to the fiberboard on the kickplates below
the sidewall and beneath the two rear seats and to the board that
goes along the bottom of the couch. Been there about 3 years now and
is holding well.

Arch,
Staple the insulation, then glue/stick the carpet on top. With the firm
backing of the insulation, then the carpet stuck on top shouldn't move
except up and down.

Hi Arch. If you scuff up the aluminum, you can use carpet cement or contact
cement(last choice) to attach it to the cover. It will hold, no problems.
Just make sure you scuff it or scour it first. I sure am glad that one of us
is getting finished. Did you see my new site. I am not so sure. Got some
feedback for me?. Glad you are in the home stretch. Darren

Yeh yeh, I saw the the insulator post. The double sided carpet tape will work
with that other product. It will work best with the aluminum sided stuff. The
fabric side will tear easily. I tested that stuff before I settled on the
fiberglass mat. Double sided tape. Spray on contact works for the fabric sided.
Not great, but I believe it will be adequate. You will have a difficult time
riveting as the rivet will pull through the bolt before it starts to compress it
against the carpet. I know that doesn't make sense but try one before you do
it. Darren

Arch, the installer who did our house also did the front floor area and
steps in the GMC. He used a commercial rubber 1/4" pad, glued it down with a
3M spray adhesive. Then covered it with a commercial carpet, gluing to the
pad with the same adhesive. (The install instructions that came with the
carpet specified that it be glued.) The combination made a considerable
difference in engine noise and heat.

I think the key to good results with this approach is 1)use a very dense but
not too thick pad and 2)a carpet whose backing is designed to be glued,
rather than stretched.
