ohh man! sounds like a close call. not familiar with PA but copperheads and water snakes in the S.E. look very similar but the copperheads are short
and fat, the water snakes are long and slim.
they are both very fast movers when its hot. the copperheads stay their spot, the water snakes usually do not and flee quickly.
copper heads are very strong too so if you try to catch it and then hold it by squeezing his neck you better have a death grip on it! I learned this
first hand (gloved thankfully)
