Try Summitt. They have a web site I believe it is www.summit.com and
get the catalog. A stock carb is fine but if you are going to spend the
$$ you might as get one that will improve the performance for the same
amount.

The Rochester carburetor is reputed to be a very good one.

Unless you have some other objective, overhauling of your carburetor
would be feasible.

Had mine done in August of 1996 and am very happy with it.

Paul your local parts store should be able to get you a remanufactured one
from TOMCO. The one I just got for my 455 was $234, with a $5.00 core charge.

Thom:

But an overhauled one, in my case from A & G Carburetor, was $100
cheaper.

Below, it is mentioned to get a replacement carburetor to improve the
performance. What does that mean? What performance improvement or
improvements are we talking about? If so, what brand/model is better.

I'm not aware that the QuadraJet needs improving in the coach
application, provided a competent overhaul/remanufacture is
accomplished.

Again in my case, A & G did such a good job that I didn't have to make
any adjustments (e. g. idle and mixture) upon reinstallation. I've
driven it over 10,000 miles since, without any problem.

One thing that needs to be kept in mind if a replacement carburetor is
to be used, is the height restriction dictated by the engine compartment
cover. Generally, it's my understanding that precludes most
alternatives.

Summit has Qjets from The Carb shop that have been reworked. They are
great on the GMC and provide good mileage and power when the secondaries
open. The rebuilt one you have probaly had similar work done and it
sounds like you gat a good price. The Carb Shop in CA will also rebuild
your Qjet and set it up for the GMC load and put the correct jets and
secondaries in. They do good work on carbs of all types and also
recurve and set up HEI distributors for evrything from the GMC's to
drag racing Oldsmobiles.

Marcus

You are right that you can get one rebuilt much cheaper. However now I have
2 good ones for $259. the remanufactured one for $234, and overhaul kit for
the original for $20 and the core charge of $5. I like to have a spare.
