Carb numbers

Here are the numbers for the GMC's:

73-74 CARB
75,76, EARLY 77 CARB# 7045254 CALIFORNIA-7045554
77- WITH 403 CARB # 17057254 CALIFORNIA-17057559
78-CARB #17058254 CALIFORNIA-17057559
Carb numbers found on left side, stamped on the flat surface close to
secondary throttle shaft
Date code (4 digits) stamped in same area, 73 to 76 has number starting
with 70, 77 & 78
Carbs start with 170. donot interchange parts between these series

There are a HUGE amount of Q-jet carbs out there with different numbers. The cubic inch numbers doesn't play into the criteria of enter change ability as much as you may think. Thus a Chevy 454 carb,and an Olds 455 Q-jet aren't the same. Cam, distributor, carb porting, expected RPM, and load range, shift points, gear ratios, and on. The carb numbers are extremely important It comes down to works or works correctly. Bob Dunahugh
