Although the old timers on this list probably don't need
this info, I'll share it with those who may find themselves
needing it.
I've finally gotten 'round to fixing my Teflon-paste-and-
electrical-tape repair of the carburetor inlet fitting -- yeah,
the big one that is useful for stripping out the carburetor
body -- that started leaking on the trip back from New
York last year. The self-tapping inlet fitting that fits my
carburetor (7043252) is:
Dorman #119-329, $18.99 at Auto-Value store here in
SoCal. You'll recognize Dorman as the supplier of all the
stuff in all those orange and black drawers at the parts
stores.
This is a long-body version, and the larger of two
diameters. Another long-body is available, but is not the
correct diameter. The short-body versions available also
come in at least two diameters, but do not fit my situation,
and perhaps others.
While removing the carburetor to thread in the fitting, I
found the base gasket was cracked, and probably
responsible for a little idle roughness. The replacement
for my carburetor I found at Auto Zone is:
Engine-Seal #85505, $8.99 (Engine-Seal is apparently a
Fel-Pro brand)
This gasket crosses to:
Fel-Pro #60335
Detroit #35120
McCord #65-0078
(Idle roughness gone.)
And for those who seem not to be able to stop at nothing,
NAPA front brake pads that fit their 42-2010 and 42-2011
calipers (according to the Parts Interchange Index, the
OEM replacements) come in at least these two flavors:
#SD728AM Severe Duty, $55.59 (supercedes MS728A
in the PII) and
#AE728AM Premium, $36.59 (also supercedes
MS728A)
Okay, I admit it -- I offered this info as trade bait. Does
anybody know where to get the bushing/grommet that
goes in the swedged-on ring on the carburetor end of the
accelerator cable? While removing the carburetor, I
thought I might replace the bushing too, and on digging it
out of the ring, it crumbled. Parts counter guys just can't
seem to find it. Any help welcome.
TIA, and I hope the parts info above is useful to someone.
Oh yeah -- just in case anyone is interested, the Thetford
ElectraMagic 80 is very rebuildable. All parts are
available from Thetford, and it's an easy -- albeit nasty --
job. Ask me how I know : { )
