I had thought the exemption was for vehicles 25 yrs. and older, but I was
wrong. Your question prompted my calling a very good friend who has
operated a smog shop here for the last 10 years. He tells me that only 73's
are now exempt. That's the bad news. The good news for the furture is that
vehicles 30 yrs and older will be exempt, so 74's can be injected in 2004,
75's in '05, etc.
He said if it was done right, he could keep me on the road (did I say he
was a good friend?), but that I wouldn't be able to sell it in CA. I guess
that would make me a bonefide hypocrite since I'm going to accept the
state's $300 refund for the bogus fees they charged when we first licensed
our previously Florida coach. Oh well....
I didn't have time to go into much depth with him, but I could tell he had
some good knowledge of various after market systems. When we get back from
Montana, I'll grill him on the relative merits of the various alternatives
(and post what I learn, of course).
Thanks alot for raising the question.
Thanks
