I was at the local junk yard today enjoying what seems to be the first week
of summer.
I found 5 or 6 of the small air compressors for the rear air suspension on
the expensive GM cars. All seemed to be in good shape (no corrosion). One
was black, maybe a jobber replacement?.
The guy said the price was 7-9 dollarettes (Canadian dollars, or 5-7 US$).
They also had a complete (more or less) 76 Eldorado (455 and complete drive
train) and two 78's with 403s and complete drive trains.
There were a number of newer units with rear disk brakes. All had been
stripped of the calipers. These must be very good and everyone wants them
or very bad and everyone needs them.
If anyone needs one (or more) of these compressors I could maybe be
convinced to spend another afternoon in the sun to retrieve a few.
I may get a couple and mount one under the hood of my truck to pump up
flats. They look like a better pump than the little plug-in portables that
cost $50 or more. I've found that just having one of those pumps along
helps keep Murphy from causing inconvenient flats.
