While searching for a replacement motor for our GMC, I found an ad for
a 78 GMC with spare eng, and trans. When I called to ask about the eng.
& trans. I was told it was the complete front end from a 500cid 75
Eldorado. I now have a cad eng. and a lot of extra parts. I think Jim
Bounds will soon recognize my voice since I will be picking his brain
with Friday calls for help.
In Ohio the historic plates are a one time fee of $17.00. There are
restrictions such as you must be going to a car event. We have these
plates on two of our cars and have not had any problems, also taking out
the GMC is getting to be an exciting event for us.
Would appreciate any info on the cad swap.

The best installation of the Caddy is to use the motormount
brackets from yhe 68-72 Eldorado. This is a single front
mount to the crossmember, just as the Toronado had.
The ho;les in the crossmember must be slotted slightly to
line up. Of course, there is a zinger here. The Caddy
rubber mount is a thick, soft rubber piece that doesn't
hold up well. Consequently, there are no more available
from the General. If you have one that's bad, you can
have it rebuilt.(expensive) If you don't have the old one
you must pay a core charge. (VERY expensive)
My solution will be to make an adapter plate between
theCaddy brackets on the motor and the GMC cushion
on the frame. Obviously, the Caddy mount, being very
thick and soft, was a high maintenance item.
On the exhaust side, I introduced Jerry Jardine( the
header king) to the guys who had the Buskirk-Rush
big-block Chevy installations. He is goling to design and
manufacture headers for that combination. If you
change the flanges, you can use Chevy headers on the
Caddy. Jerry assured me that would be no problem.
And if you get discouraged with the whole idea, then
I'm a potential player for the Caddy.
I like the sound of 540 cubic inches and 611 foot-pounds
of torque. Tim Allen is right. More power.argh.! argh!

I am really interested in a "crate" new engine... almost any engine.
Nothing beats new metal, electronics, gaskets, etc, etc. Add to this they
will cost about 1/4 of what a rebuild does, I am sure a kit will develope
in the near future.

Gary,
Thanks for the information on the mounts and exhaust for my swap.
Ever since we had running water piped into our house, I don't fear
making small changes. To change a product doesn't mean you have
destroyed it.
These are my thoughts.
