SB 42 passed December 2, 1996, From the summary:
"Existing law exempts any motor vehicle manufactured prior to 1974
model-year or, beginning January 1, 2003, that is 30 or more model-years
old."
My understanding is: It must pass the emission test and have no
modifications until the GMC Motorhome is 30 years old. Before that, any
modifications that the inspectors catches must be returned to the original
configuration before the vehicle can be registered to drive on the
California roads. After it is 30 years old, no inspection is required for
registration. I have a 69 Lotus that has progressed into that no inspection
realm. Now I just send money and they send the new registration.
