Netters,

Whenever Clarence Buskirk did one of his stretch conversions, he would take
pictures of the process and mount them in a photo album. When he delivered
the coach, the album went with it. A couple months ago, Buddy Bethune told
me that he had picked a 29' Buskirk and wanted to know if I'd like to see
it. While I was there, he showed me the photo album. I couldn't believe
what I saw - the entire stretch process in pictures. Buddy agreed to loan
me the album for a couple days so I could scan the photos.

I posted them last night at:

http://www.gmcmotorhome.com/tech/buskirk/

Please don't be naive enough to think that you can learn how to stretch a
GMC by looking at these photos. In fact, if anything the photos show what a
daunting task this is. Their real value is the excellent view they provide
of the coach structure and the neat ideas you can pick up(like the
auxilliary gauge panel under the dash).

The pictures are large(approx. 750x510), so they'll take a while to load and
may make AOL's proxy servers time out(sorry about that). There are 106 of
them and they're arranged 10 per page.

Enjoy,
Patrick

Great set of Pictures

What a lot of work to scan them. Thanks Patrick

I did learn a lot

1 it is NOT a 4 bagger -- I was surprised
2 There is a lot of storage beside the Refer
3 Great looking air scoop on the manifold
4 Has the original look of no T skirts.

He was the king of one liners. Saw this coach at the LV rally, asked him
where he stretched it, and he said "any where you want to". Asked him how
he fixed problems on the road ( he was in his 80s') he said, "I go to the
back of the coach and wake up my mechanic."

You're welcome. Killed three evenings scanning and then about three hours
last night straightening them up and resizing. They were mounted in
"magnetic" photo pages and I was afraid of trying to take them out. I
scanned each page and then "cut" the pictures out of the scan. The result
was that many of the pic's were rotated slightly. After the first 40, I got
pretty good at guessing the rotation angle needed to straighten each
shot. Then it took over an hour to upload the whole 5.5meg(still trying
to find someone bringing dsl to our neighborhood).

Glad you enjoyed them. Any problems with page 3?

Patrick

Patrick,

Great pictures - what a project! (Both the stretch and scanning the photo
album!)
No problem with page 3 here.

Hmm, I'm a little disappointed that no one has noticed(or at least
mentioned) that this coach had a fuel injected Caddy engine. I
understand it was problematic(more the fault of the engine builder than the
engine) and was later replaced with a blueprinted 455.

Great job with the photos. They show some incredible workmanship but my head
keeps getting stuck on the fact that this was one major project for 3 feet!

I realize there was a lot of other work done, but adding that 3 feet was no
small feat (pun intended)

With all the concerns regarding bearings and other parts under high load
with stock set up, I cannot imagine why someone would want to complicate
matters for 3 feet of space.

Oh well, to each his own

No problems with page 3, and you are to be commended for a super job
of putting them on the net... I owe you a beer whenever we meet...
that's the least I can do.
