broken black water tank

Hey folks!

I got back into town yesterday after spending a week at a trial as an
expert witness. Looooong week.

Now, here's the GMC piece -

the engine and transmission are in place in my Royale (the second GMC) and
the final drive goes in next week. I got underneath and inspected the black
water tank - one corner is broken. So, I'm in search of a replacement black
water tank for a 77 Royale ( it has both a black and grey water tank). Any
suggestions? I know that I read a thread on these tanks but I can't find it.

Just got a fresh water tank from Gateway. He had it dropped shipped from
Ardemco. He was cheaper than Ardemco quoted (go figure, gotta keep the
vendors happy I suppose). Try either of them.

One comment though not pretaining to the bw tank... the new fresh water tank
was square (not rounded corners like the original) so my hold down staps
were too short. I am looking for 1 1/4 heavy webbing to pop rivit (or epoxy
or both) to originals to lengthen them so they'll work. Thought about using
my motorcycle tie down straps but not enough room for the latches. Besides
who needs a quick disconnect water tank :-)... Also I had to use a 1 1/2"
pipe to hose filler with a 2" one section and epoxyed over it to bring the
filler up to 2" (same size as the original).

Geez... these GMC's are almost as bad as Harleys (got a '96 Bad Boy).... at
least I can build a new "old" hawg from 100% newly manufatured third party
parts at only about twice (or usually worse) the original price! Thank
goodness I'm over the sticker shock of H-D's... now I can move upto GMC!!!

nate the fresh water tank that I got from Cinnabar was an exact fit.
However I put a new treated plywood reinforcing pad underneath it and than
had to find a way to extend the straps. I found it is easier to go to the
hardware store and get a screw extender (double female) and extend the screw
from the strap until it fits the floor mount. that is what I did.

Nate -- why not just get a piece of threaded rod and attach it to the
existing treaded portion of the front web strap using a "long" nut. Many
hardware stores sell a special nut to link two threaded rods together. It
is
about 1-1/2" long and threaded all the way through. The lower end of the
new
piece of threaded rod will go through the floor bracket just as the original
threaded portion did.

Good Idea!!! I had already cut through the sewed lap seam on the webbing
at the Tee Bolts just to remove them since there was NO room to loosen the
Tee bolts (I worked on once for 2 hours, geez)!!!
I dunno if I can make a stand-off (thats what we call them in the computer
industry, like PC motherboards have) since there is limited clearance under
the new tank and the tee bolts might not clear. Well worth looking into at
the local hardware store though... Thanks for the suggestion, guy!!!
