Never had a problem with any of my GMCs that kept me
from getting to my destination. (Knock on wood)

Bought my first one in 1978 - a new 77 Kingsley, put over
125000 miles on her. All that was ever done was
tires, brakes, tuneups and reg maint. Furnace quit once,
generator quit twice. Not bad. Then I sold her for $5000
more than I paid.

I now have a 78 Eleganza and a 74 Stretch, last year we
put almost 20000 miles on the Eleganza, 6 trips north
from Florida (2,000 to 3,500 each), she has never let
us down. Auto heater motor failed ($17 at napa), leaky
valve stem ($2 at goodyear), airbag valve cracked (used
spare shrader valve to repair).

She did totaly quit on me once . . . I ran out of gas
- - including reserve - took 53 gallons to fill. Guess I
should carry spare gas .

I do carry a few common sense spare parts:

Oil, Tr Fluid, Brake Fluid, Grease, Carb Cleaner, Air Bag,
Belt set, various hose clamps, fuses, bulbs, shrader valves,
spare tire, std jack, 2 large cans of fix-a-flat, jumper
cables, fuel filter, chock-blocks, nylon ties, duct-tape,
an assortment of screws, bolts and nuts, some wire in
various guages, some vacuum hose, some short lengths of
various hoses, a small electrial kit with testor and a
real good tool kit. But nothing major. Most items are in a
single box for easy transfer from coach to coach.

AND... My most important fix-all tool... My Cellphone!

She gets a bath after each trip, and regular maintenance.
I keep a close eye (and ear) on all items, change oil
every 2500-3000 mi, and do a good inspection before each
long trip. I also take her to visit Alex twice a year for
a check up.

Pampering pays - we love our trips and our GMCs.
