I am ready to re-install my drive axle, I can't find the 12 point 3/8
x24 1.25" grade 8 bolts. Can I use a 1.5" length? Should I use cap
(hex drive) as a substitute?

What grease do I use on the shaft end and on the mating piece between
the axle & the drive member. Is Mobil 1 ok?

Eric,
You can get the bolts from Cinnabar or Buskirk's. These are the only
bolts that should be used.

I had mine tightened by Bob Lamy. He found mine loose, so loose that I was
destined for a failure. He tightened them to 75 pounds, and said that is what
they should be set at.

I need the GMC for a short ~200 mile trip this weekend. I installed hex
drive bolts with inside star washers. The 1.5" 12 points had a much
smaller head than the oem while the hex drive were the same diameter as
the oem. I was able to torque to 75#'s which is what my manual
suggested. I will call Cinnabar and order the proper 12 points before I
head for Albuquerque.
Thanks to all
