Birchaven Bunk Bed deployment - weight?

Greeting all -

We picked up the '77 Birchaven and I am now checking out various things
(and marveling at the intricacies of the coach design).

I tried deploying the upper bunk bed and I must be doing something
wrong. The back cushion of the davenport (Gaucho? what's a 'Gaucho'?)
swings up but it is so heavy I cannot manage (alone) to get the support
straps anywhere near the ceiling hook it is supposed to clip to.

Is that normal or is there a counterbalance spring or something that may
be missing?

Thanks in advance

No there is no counter balance.
The hooks are in the ceiling.
You should be able to see it

Yes it's that heavy, and has a part of it tucked behind as well. Get a friend top help.

Check to see if something is binding. They are heavy-ish but should be gruntable to lift.

Face the cushion and use both arms and life. As it rises, the back section
will tend to drop.
Grab that section and lift , then shift over to the belt and hook one at a
time.
