I had the same thing. I jackup the entire bogie (lifting two wheels).
Removed the wheel with the busted shock. put a block under the swing arm
behind the drake drum, and lowered the coach unit the shoch could be
removed. This is the only way I could figure out how to put on the new
shoch anyway. P.S. the shock acts as a limiter on the amount of travel the
swing arm can go.

I knew this was the case with the front shocks, but I didn't think it was on
the rear. On my 73, which currently has Monroes(soon to be departed - the
KYB's are already on hand) on the rear, the swing arm is stopped by the
bogie mount. If this is so, then it's another *good* reason not to use
Monroe shocks.
