Billy asked me to put this out to everyone.

On the morning of March 15th, he became very ill; headache, nausea, balance
problems, etc. He found out for sure yesterday that he had a stroke. His
spirits seem good today, but he's having a tough time typing and getting
around.

Here's what he sent, cleaned up a bit per his request:

"Hi John, I can hardly type. On the morning of the 15th, I came down with a
horrible headache. Thought it was a migraine that robbed me of my
balance, made me so, so nauseous... (I never have headaches). Turned out to
be a stroke.... finally found out for sure yesterday. I don't know how
long it'll take me to get back to normal, if ever. So sudden, one day fine,
next day a whole different ball game. Vision doubled, running into walls,
falling over, hahaha. I'm a total wreck! I'll keep on keepin on somehow ..
May take me a bit to figure out how. Ya know, we make do with what we
got.. Thanks for askin. I gotta figure out how to get a 70" monitor so I
can see it! Ya might clean this up and pass it along to all our GMC
buddes."

Please keep Billy in your thoughts and prayers.

Billy,

My sister-in-law worked in a stroke unit as a nurse and witnessed remarkable recoveries. When I was commuting to San Francisco I would listen to audio books - a great way to absorb good writing. One that I thought was fascinating to me was “My Stroke of Insight” by Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph D. who recounts her own stroke!

A similar story that was interesting was Eben Alexander’s “Proof of Heaven” where this neurosurgeon recounts his experience with stroke. Eben was in such a bad way after his stroke that the doctors had “the talk” with his wife. Needless to say she didn’t pull the plug! He goes on to suggest that what he experienced is proof that heaven exists and he’s seen it.

If it’s of any help I’ll gladly have a drink for you! If heaven is real I hope there are GMC’s there.

My most sincere condolences and prayers for Billy.

My wife Judy had a stroke just after her 73rd birthday back in 2013. She had similar symptoms as described below, but we didn't recognize it for what it was. Luckily, a nurse neighbor and friend convinced me she should go to the emergency room. Although the emergency room was at a heart specialty facility, they did not recognize that she was undergoing a stroke and did not administer the drug that could minimize damage. Judy has pretty much recovered, but has lost vision in the upper left quadrant of both eyes. Unfortunately, this has meant the end of her Harley riding, but happily, she has dodged the long dirt nap!

The doctors and therapy should hopefully enable great progress back to normalcy, Billy, and that is the outcome for which what all of us are hoping and praying!

Howdy Billy,

As one of the folks standing there to greet us as we walked through the
clubhouse door at our first Classics rally in Rusk last Fall, then again at
Santo, we sure did miss you at the Shawnee shindig!

Keep your spirits up sir, and know that the GMC community is here to back
you up in any way possible. Meanwhile, we offer our prayers for a steady
and full recovery.

Hugs,
Vern and Lenore
