Batteries

Had to move coach and do not have a 30 amp hookup. I would periodically
start up the MH. One week later after it started up all the batteries
were dead. Can this be from the Power converter or maybe alternator.

OK Joyce,

You are going to have to give us more information on your coach like year, length, and model before we can take a guess on what is happening. Also is
this a one time event or has it happened multiple times before. Also helpful would be model of converter.

If you have 120VAC available then a simple adapter from 50 or 30 amp to 120VAC 15 amp service is available and would allow you to plug it in.

One other thing that bothers me with your question is both batteries (house and engine) are going dead. This should not happen as the batteries are
two independent systems.

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.....

Two requests:
Get back to us with the specifics that KenB asked for and..
Fill in a sigfile. This is for you and us, so we can be more assistance.

To do a sigfile, go to and scroll down to . There is a Signature box there. With this, every time you
post we will know who you are, what your coach is and where you reside. These are all important because you will meet other GMC owners and they won't
have to figure out who you are, and knowing what the coach is matters because there were lots of variations between models, and try to include any
major mods. The geographic reference is two ways helpful, some problems are related to climate, and you may already have a helpful friend in striking
distance.

By getting the attention of either Ken (KenB or KenH) you have at you hand the two people in the universe that have the most understanding and
experience with GMC electrics (and lots of other stuff too). And if you do not understand the answers you get, SAY So! Neither of them will try to
impress you with their knowledge, but they sometimes have to remember to slow down to normal human speed.

Do you really live in a Bale House? That is neat, did not now there were still such in captivity.

Now, by acquiring a GMC and finding you way here, you have just collected a couple thousand brand new old friends. Be aware that everybody here has
an agenda, and you will learn that it is not hidden at all. That agenda is to see to it that you enjoy both your coach and the freedom it gives you
as much as we all enjoy ours. It is a helping and supporting community like few others. The only other that I know of is that of the watermen that
are my world. For that reason, I have taken to welcoming new owners here much as a new owner or vessel is welcomed there. So,

hey Strawlady,

plug it back in to an extension cord with an adapter that will let you plug the extension cord into the big plug but dont turn on the air conditioners
becasue that will flip the breaker in the location that the extension cord is coming from.

see if they recharge. it may be as simple as you left something on and the isolator was not isolating.

when it recharges, turn everything off an monitor the battery to see how long it holds a charge and go from there.

You can always install a master battery disconnect and stop the mystery drainage problem, excepting internal battery drainage. Or, start removing 12v
fuses and test until you find the drainage.
No telling what the PO did. However, modern radios are always "on."

If you can, plugging the coach into a 15 amp residential circuit, may well charge the house bank but it is unlikely unless the isolator has been
replaced with a combiner that this will also recover the main engine start battery.

Also, if the original converter is still installed, it has to be monitored or it will damage your new house bank. We may have to do some arm waving
and a little feather dance if the main engine battery is also dead. It may be that the coach is equipped to deal with this, some are and many are
not. If you reply with the requested information, then an accurate suggestion can be provided.

I'm lazy, so indulge me. If your coach has a set 'boost' switch rather than a spring loaded one (Most Transmodes do) be sure you don't have the
batteries connected together, house to chassis. If they are, Unwanted Things will happen, one of which is they will discharge together, and all die
at the same time. Help me along here with year, model, upfitter if it's a Royale or Avion or Norris as opposed to a GM upfit. All of these have
bearing or could have bearing on your problem.
