Larry,

I took the ferry years ago and it was great. Just talked to someone who
took the new road from Nogales south. They drove at night. Apparently
it is four lanes and protected by the Green Angels. I would check with
AAA about making reservations for the ferry. They might know whom to
get in contact with about the ferry. Let me know, please. I am
thinking about spring vacation with the kids.

Hi, Larry ~~
Have spent many happy hours, days, weeks in Baja -- motorhoming and
otherwise. My favorite place on the planet is Punta Chivato, just north of
Mulege. There's a beautiful little Mexican hotel there with loads of
atmosphere. Also, La Serenidad Hotel in Mulege is a great spot. Back in
the late 70's, we had a 1973 Canyonlands 26-footer that we ventured down to
Baja in several times. Got stuck in the sand a couple of times when we
ventured off the highway in pursuit of an interesting-looking spot. Big
mistake! Was really an ordeal getting the coach unstuck. Luckily, we had
six strong youngsters with us! Concepcion Bay is gorgeous, especially if
you can take a Zed or some other rubber boat down to run about in. Great
fishing. Also lots of fun to take a rubber boat up the Mulege River.
Since we're in San Diego, it's not too far to go for a short trip. My
dream is to take off and go down there for two or three months just
exploring Baja (both coasts). We did not take the coach across the Sea of
Cortez on the ferry, but my husband did that in a jeep from Loreto many
years ago. Let us know if you decide to make the trip. There's safety in
numbers -- especially these days. Wouldn't advise camping alone on the
beaches down there anymore. I'ts not like the old days.
P.S. Is there a rule for this mailing list that everything has to be about
mechanics? There's so much other fun stuff to talk about!

The only rule is that the subject must involve GMC's. Trip stories and
the like are fine. The reason that politics are taboo here is that the
current difficulties of the Executive branch of the US government is a
very devisive issue and opinions run very strong pro and con. I've seen
discussion on other lists I follow become spoiled by running flame wars
on this subject, and I don't want to see our little corner of the net
polluted by it. In addition, as far as I can tell, there's no GMC
connection.

A certain amount of fluff(i.e. the recent squirrel vs. packrat thread -
even though I personally enjoyed it

Hi, Patrick --
I am really enjoying being on this list -- and learning more than I ever
wanted to know about air bags, etc.! You won't have any political
discussion coming from this quarter. I gave up on reading the paper before
Christmas -- too depressing. I'd rather think about motorhome adventures
than the mess in D.C. Thanks for a great resource!
