Oops !
The synthetic grease that leaked over me was SHELL not Mobile.
Found info in tool box today.

Was it a 'real' synthetic, or just a fancy-schmanzty name that made it sound
like it was?

Many of these oil/grease manufacturers use some names that would make you
*think* you're getting a Mobil-1 type product, but you're not.

Shell does make synthetic grease. It is marketed in Canada and is
also repackaged and sold as a Canadian Tire brand. I got rid of the
tube a couple of days ago. Gold/black with a red grease that
cannot stand the heat of the battery compartment beside the
generator for storage. Wonder how it holds up in all the
applications I've used it for....

This experience after it took some of you guys a year to get me
into it. Right now, the only thing not lubed by synthetic is the
tranny fluid (at the moment) and my Medtronics pack :-)

I've started to redo fittings with Valvoline as I couldn't find Mobile
here in Springfield.

And there you have it :-)

You're not alone Mike.
I've been using the Shell/Canadian Tire Synthetic for quite a while now. I
did have one tube that did "leak" in the greasegun while stored in the
garage. I can't recall if it was during winter and stored on the floor
(heated) or if it was just in my regular greasetub on the shelf. Havn't had
one since. I know that it only leaked in the greasegun as I would have
remembered if a tube on the shelf had done the same :-)

I've quit packing the greasegun around as I figure I can strech the grease
interval occasionally. I try for 3k.

I have not seen puddles or any other evidence of the grease seperating at
point of use. Have probably used it for a couple of years by now.
