If that is what you found when you took the cover off, it is likely that the lifter is also popped out of the bore and laying in the lifter valley.
That means you have no oil pressure. Do not try to run the engine like that. At a minimum, you will have to pull the intake manifold, put in new
lifter and pushrods. I see the pushrods are missing the round ends. Hopefully, you will find them in the lifter valley. If not they may have made
their way to the bottom of the pan. Reassemble, then start it and see if you have good oil pressure. If you do, you will have to IMMEDIATELY up the
idle to 2K rpm and do a lifter/cam break-in on those new lifters. Carefully watch the oil pressure on this. Now change the oil and drive for 1000
miles or so watching the oil pressure and listening for unusual noises, change the oil again this time taking an oil sample for analysis. If you have
high numbers of iron and/or copper, you are probably looking at a rebuild. In addition, you are going to have to figure out why that rocker arm got
that way, so look things over during reassembly....maybe even just replace those two rockers. Let us know what you find when you lift the intake.
I've been where you are...not fun.
