An 18' zip dee will fit perfectly on the coach. it should be mounted at the
rear centered on the vertical seam just behind the propane door and on the
front centered on the vertical seam for the front cap.

The 18' is the correct awning size for the GMC. Carefree is often pushed
by dealers and I guess it is an okay product. The Zip Dee is nice looking
and light while the A&E (my choice) is strong and very easy to find
parts, etc.

Make sure your dealer understands that special arms are req'd for the GMC
due to the radius. The arms are specially made by A&E so allow some time
for time for shipping, etc. DON'T let your dealer modify regular arms as
they may not hold up.

Denny,
There is nothing magic about the "standard GMC 18" awning", it just happens to
be ONE awning that seems to fit most all GMC's. The IMPORTANT thing in
determining what length of awning is to choose one so that the support arms
will fasten into one of the aluminum "studs" ; DO NOT ALLOW THE DEALER to
fasten the arms only into the fiberglass skin. I would prefer a length of
about 14' over the 18' heavy Zip-Dee monster that came with my coach.

Thanks for all the input on the awnings that you fellas have experienced,
and feel comfortable with. With all of your opinions and my wants, we are
going to go ahead with the 14 foot carefree with the special arms, and the
guys that have done us a good job in the past. One plus is that the
technical engineer for carefree owns a GMC, and that gives me some
confidence. I will let you know if there are any horror stories.
