awning mishap

I am a new member to GMCnet, and I have a little problem. A truck got in my
way and wasted my forward A&E TravelAWN 5000 support arm on my 74 Glacier.
Dometic sells replacement parts for this, but they are slightly different
and most of them are painted. To maintain resale value I thought buying
both would be a good choice. Then I was told this would cost nearly $800.00
and would not be available until August. Too much money and too much time
caused me to cancel the order.

Does anyone out there know of a used. but functional replacement for this
at a reasonable price?

Also, I have been told that there is a difference between the front and
back arms. I cannot see any difference. Can someone fill in my blanks?

All help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pete,
There's an RV Salvage place in Phoenix that has a pretty wide assortment of salvaged awnings and parts from RVs that meet untimely deaths.
Maybe there's a place like that near you.

Richard,
Can you give me an address, phone # or email address for the place in
Phoenix?

Thanks

Pete,

Call "Country Boy Enterprises" in Granville, Ohio and ask for Jerry. He
should be hanging
around there tinkering. He's supposed to be retired. He was an A and E
dealer who
stocked parts and made up awnings to suit. He had all the parts to fix me
up when a
Kansas windstorm blew my awning over the roof.
Also, he's a helluva nice guy! Tell him I told you that. LOL

Here you go, Pete.

Arizona RV Salvage
2737 West Lincoln St
Phoenix, AZ
602-272-0301

You can email them a picture of what you need.

Gary's recommendation, as usual, is a good one, and having an awning specialist matching things up for you would likely be a safer choice. Shipping
is the fly in the ointment. Good luck!

In my stash I've got a pair of A&E awning arms that came off of a GMC. I don't know what model, the only identifier is a label on one arm that says
"A&E Systems by Dometic". They are unpainted. You can have them, zero dollars. Two problems:

1. One of the arms is missing the handle that is riveted on. Use one from your existing arms?
2. You would have to arrange shipping. I am in Florida.

If you want them PM me your cell phone number or email address and I can send pictures via text or email.

Peter,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.....

I can't help with your awning problem at all, but you did find your way here and that is a very good thing.

You have already found out a little of how helpful this community can be, and this is just the beginning.

Do us all and your self a favor. For your awning this is not so important, but for a lot else it matters. Use a sigfile that contains your name, a
short about the coach (model and year are important for some things) and a geographic reference (some of these people may already be nearby and choose
to assist).

As said, this is a helping and very supportive community that wants to see that you have every chance to enjoy the coach and what it can do for you as
much as we all do. As the only other community I know of that is like this is that of the watermen that are my world, I have chosen to welcome all
that show up here as any new arrival would be welcomed there. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Pete and Jeanne,

Matt

Pete,

Placing the arms next to each other, the main body on one is 1-1/2 inches longer than the other. I don't know if the longer one is front or rear.

I will text you some photos to your cell phone in a few minutes.

Bob,

I will try to check that out, but the pretzel like condition, plus cutting
it up for recycle, makes it pretty hard to measure.
If these came off the same GMC coach I must assume that it is correct. I am
looking for a shipper to pick these up and package them for shipment. Where
are you in Florida?

Again, thank you for solving my problem. Look in your Christmas stocking
for a thank you treat.

I'm in Winter Springs FL, about 15 miles northeast of Orlando. Other larger towns nearby that may have transportation companies are Sanford and
Longwood.

I will text you my mailing address.
