As many of you may have followed, I am doing a refresh after failing a piston non-catastrophically.
There is aluminum dust embedded in the bearing material, so new bearings, but no need to even polish let alone grind.
I didn't know that 455 car bearings are different, but when I saw them, then I knew. The thrust and rear mains were notably different. So, I ordered
a set of 20 under for everything (without restudying the measurement data). The mains were wrong. I knew this as soon as I set the crank in them.
So, I looked at my build book. The mains are ground 30 under..... CHIT....
I ordered a set of 30 under. Only one supplier and to be drop shipped by the only one manufacturing source.
I was expecting to hear that they had shipped. Crickets, so I contacted the supplier who contacted the manufacturer and got back to me.
The manufacturer is expecting to ship my parts in mid-July. (This would make the coach at the dock until August.)
I don't have a spare coach.
I am working on a Plan B and/or C right now.
This was all during a time confused by the arrival of a second granddaughter that is a sixth grand. (Everybody is doing fine, but it still adds to
the mayhem.) I was also slipped a little because I have never before in my engine career (which is long and varied) ran into a crank ground more on
the mains than the throws. The other way, sure. Well, I have now.....
I actually have another crank and block, but this is what I have all cleaned up and was ready to assemble. The other block is a car engine and I have
not done a full and complete survey on it - yet..
If this is as bad as it gets, it is still a good year.
