Re - availability of the vac booster pump...
Does anyone know who made these for GM?

Was this a Delco-Remy product or were they made by an independent
contractor?

If a third party shop, perhaps we (as the list) could get a decent deal on a
volume purchase from the OEM.

Just a wild hare to pursue for those who want new and are stopped by the
price; and can't find a used take off.

I'm sending out an APB for any used ones in our area to try and help out.
I'll advise as this develops.

If someone who already has one can identify the manufacturer, it might be a
lead to pursue.

I have not installed mine (used) yet. It says "Delco Products" on the end
plate, and there is an adhesive foil label with "5048679" and "2651 0 1I"
The other end has "HVU2" embossed in the plastic. Hope this helps. We went
through over 25 cars (Spauldings, Spokane, WA) before we found one.

The EV-list guys use these pumps on their electric cars. The pumps can
also be found on a few Volvo models. The Volvo pump has a GM label under
the Volvo label. If this was not built by GM would Volvo be buying it
from GM? The Volvo pump is inside the engine bay in front of the left
front tire. I'm sorry I do not know which models and I cannot find the
message that told about this.

Many of the EV guys are using storage tanks with their pumps. Most of
the tanks are home built from ABS or PVC sewer pipe with the matching end
caps. ABS seems to be better because it thicker so it is easier to mount
the hose fittings. They are using 3" or 4" sewer pipe 18" to 24" long.
The tank goes between the booster and the chack valve.

If you can't find a pump you may want to add a tank in the interum. Put
an extra hose fitting on the tank so you can just plug the pump onto the
tank when you get it. You can get the vacuum port covers at most parts
stores to block off the port till you need it. The tank should give you
3 or 4 times as many brake applications before you run out of vacuum.

Note the GM pump was installed as a vacuum booster so it was plumbed
berween the engine and the brake booster to increase the existing vacuum.
Our use of these pumps is for vacuum production when the engine quits.
With the engine stopped there is no vacuum to boost so there is no
advantage to plumbing it back to the engine. While connecting it to the
intake manifold will do no harm, connecting it to outside air through a
muffler/filter will prevent the pump from sucking in fuel fumes.
