I just contacted GoDaddy about the site.
here's the response:
[ME]Hi, writing on behalf of the GMC motorhome community - it seems that the owner of the domain
gmcmotorhome.info may have suffered a health issue
and could be unable to renew the domain. We cannot contact him and because this domain(site) contains invaluable resources for the GMC motorhome
community we cannot let it expire without attempting to salvage it!
[GoDaddy]So the domain has expired and you are not the owner and want to renew the domain?
[ME]If possible, yes
[GoDaddy]Apologies, the domain can be renewed only from the account in which it is expired. Do you have access of that account having the domain
name?
[ME]I'm afraid not, I'm just a user.
[GoDaddy]Apologies, only the owner will have access to renew. Even we cannot validate the account without owner permission to renew the domain.
[ME]I understand. If the owner has passed away what can be done in a case like that?
[GoDaddy]In that case anyone else managing site or having the account would need to contact us for renewal.
[ME]OK, I'll make some inquiries to see if anything can be done. Thanks for your help.
So that's the story so far. Maybe someone can get in contact with the owner, renew the domain then either mirror/archive the site files or and ask him
to transfer the domain to one of us so we can keep it up.
