I’ve wanted a GMC MotorHome since 1978, when my parents came within minutes of signing on the dotted line, but a sudden corporate relocation conspired to keep me away from acres of Herculon and the thrum of a big-block Olds.
I’ve drooled over these for years, and the time is right. My original quest was for a 26’, with a 455, Alcoas, functioning roof and dash air, working genset and any floor plan with a Queen-ish bed. I wanted one with original upholstery and window treatments, and I had resigned myself to a side bath.
A couple have been sold out from under me, which is fine: the right rig always comes along. I had seen this coach advertised from a lot in Oregon this spring, but was out of the country and didn’t love the redos that had been done, however tasteful. I also wasn’t sure about the sleeping situation.
Seeing and driving are believing. The interior appointments are fantastic, aside from the carpet, which is an easy fix. The cushions were replaced with a modern high-density polyfoam. It has very clever pleated blinds all around - pull up for light filtering, down for light blocking. It has brand new roof air and the dash air blows ice cubes. Onan The Barbarian starts and runs easy. Alcoas with Transforces on the drive wheels and something newish from Toyo on the mids and rears. There’s a newer Thetford toilet as well.
I am really excited - I never really considered a Royale but the layout works for our use cases and the condition was too good to pass up!
