Looking for experiences out there, if there are any.

What make/model of panel(s) in use?

How/where installed? Any pictures?

Any practical/real experiences as to output on cloudy/rainy days?

Heinz

We use Siemens 10 watt panels (have 45 in stock) and on a clear day at
45 degree angle we get 600-625 ma at 13.8 volts DC. Clouds do make a
great deal of difference and on a cloudy day it can be as low as 50ma.
The other area of problems is slight shading of the panel. If 10% of
the panel is shaded by a tree branch or leaves etc. you loose about 70%
of the chargeing capacity. The cost to power ratio is high and they are
not what I woould consider to be a good reliable source of charging
power as a sole source. Let me know if you need more info or would like
to get some. I can get almost any size paenl at cost from Sunwize my
supplier.

How much penalty is expected if you leave the panels flat?
I.e. I wouldn't want to have to crawl up on the roof to raise them :-)

How high are they. That's what been turning me away in the past, i.e. not
much for maintaining streamline.

Heinz
I use 2 Siemens panels mounted flat, in front of the forward Vent opening=
=2E The charging meter averages 4 amps in Arizona sunlight. I mounted the=
panels lengthwise with alum angle.

As far a flat versus angled there is some penalty, but not a great deal during
the summer months. In winter, as the sun is much lower, there is probaly
about a 20 - 25% loss. They are only about 1" high so not a lot of wind
resistance.
