G'day,

I'm in the process of zero timing the front end and I was going to reinforce the lower control arms, however, I don't think I'll
have touch these!

Anybody ever seen any like this before? This coach was "built" by Clarence Buskirk and I suspect this may be his handiwork.

Rob,

All the Buskirk Stretch coaches have this style lower A arm. They have a billet hex material instead of the steel on the stock arms along with the zerk fitting to grease the hex where the torsion bar fits. They are reinforced with steel plate at least 1/4” in thickness and welded. It is a truly bulletproof assembly.

Rob,

the lower control arms on my Buskirk Stretch were modified/strengthened similar to those.

G'day,

I guessed right!

I've reviewed the photos that showed how Clarence built the 29 foot stretches and was really impressed by his work.

I would have loved to meet the man.

I unfortunately only met him once but every word out of his mouth contained
more awesomeness than the one before to this Newbie at the time !

Rob,

Living only 85 miles from Sandusky, Mi I was able to go to Buskirk’s shop many many times. When we bought our first GMC from a great lady in Lansing Mi named Gladys Rogers she told us that she always had it serviced at Buskirk’s. So we went to see Clarence to check on the coach we want to buy. The man was a very unique person and always thinking on how to do things. We spent a morning the first visit talking about the coach we want to purchase and he showed us the stretch coach they were completing for a customer. Little would we know that we would be the owners of the coach 12 years later and become the 3rd owners.

He was alway showing the latest trick stuff that he had installed on his personal coach and on other coaches. He was an amazing person and one of the giants in the GMC World.

JR,

Well today I discovered something else unique about the Kingsley; the driver side front had a 3 bearing setup ala Wallace hubs / knuckles. I called Dave Lenzi to see if he wanted it as a core for the hubs and knuckles I got from him and he noted he could not use them. He told me Clarence made them as well as Wallace. I'm glad he can't use them as I couldn't get the three outer seal retainer bolts loose! I'll have to make a special wrench to get them out.

Rob,
The 3 bearing assembly that Clarence made was different from the Wallace hubs, the middle bearing was different. If you remember Caspro they sold the 3 bears assemblies and listed it in their catalog and those were made for Caspro by Buskirk. I had talked with Dave earlier in the years on going thru what I have and he said that would, but Hal Kalding has had his A-arms redone to use the 1 ton front end. If I get time next year that is what I will do also.

JR,

When I spoke with Dave he explained the difference between the Wallace and Buskirk hubs.

The Kingsley has a Buskirk hub / knuckle on the driver side and an OEM on the passenger side. Therefore the Buskirk on the passenger side failed somewhere along the line.

I installed a set of Dave's hubs / knuckles (with grease zerk) in Double Trouble back in 2009 and since they have work perfectly I purchased a set for the Kingsley. I also purchased two new rotors.

I've got the upper and lower control arms disassembled and will install new ball joints in both and urethane bushings in the lowers and rubber in the uppers with an offset bushing in the rear to enable me to get a bit more caster if I need it.
