Anybody installed a Delco 20804130 Vacuum Pump??

OK Dave Lenzi sold me.
An Electric vacuum pump was on this winter's list.

I bought an ACDelco 20804130 Vacuum Pump (Bosch/Hella part) on Ebay. I finally got it plumbed in. (If you do not have significant metal working
facilities available, consider buying Dave's manifold.)

The pump ran as soon as it was powered. It did not run and shut off. It did a lot of run-stop-run. I identified that the pump was leaking back very
badly. So, I added another check valve. Unfortunately, the check valve available at the parts stores are all the CCV (Cheap Chinese Version) and
they leak only somewhat less than the pump itself. I haven't tried it with the engine running because I still have to finish the cooling system
flush. That will be later this week when I also load water and LP for the excursion to Shawnee.

I bought them off eBay and fitted barbed connectors to each end. Probably still chinese, but they worked. Current coach had one pulled out of a
booster.. or anyway it's meant for a booster. Hose clamps to each end.

I talked to Dave a lot about how he recommends plumbing a vacuum pump. His plumbing has a separate vacuum switch that is on the opposite side of a
check valve because vacuum pump check valves can leak. He also recommends that the vacuum switch be connected directly to the booster through a
disabled check valve. Dave sells an adjustable vacuum switch and recommends it be set at 16 inches minimum. Mine is plumbed that way now.

I have one of Dave Lenzi first new vacuum layouts installed about 2 years ago. It was the first time that I have had really great brakes in all the years that I have owned a GMC coach.

The connector to the booster, the aluminum 2 port adapter piece with the vacuum switch at the 3 o’clock position and the plugged port at the 6 o’clock position.You can hitch a vacuum gauge at the plugged port to monitor the booster pressure. The black check valve is hitched directly to the Ford vacuum pump.

Shows the master cylinder layout. I went from a P30 master back to a stock master to get the brake pressure up to over 1100 psig. My rear brake setup is a Lee Harrison 12.5 inch rotor with a 80 MM caliper. and a drum setup on the rear bogy with a 15/16 slave cylinder. I also swapped the brake lines on the master cylinder.

I set mine at 18 inches and I know that Dave have been using 20 inch. 16 thru 20 gives you a nice firm pedal and the 18 and 20 inch are if you have the ford vacuum pump because of the fast recovery. It is a shame that the Ford vacuum pump is no long available although you may find it available on ebay at an unobtainium price.

That adapter is nice, makes it really simple. I did not buy that but I should have. That and Dave's dual-ported booster make it really nice and
simple.

prices. I found it for $29.39 to $65.

I also found that RockAuto has the ACDelco 20804130 for $123.79 and that,
in case you want to hit the junkyards, it's OE on:

The ford vacuum pump ( aka Ford Azzure vacuum pump) that was listed on eBay a while back is still easily found. The early f150 ecoboost pick up uses the same pump. They were notorious for corrosion, so Ford revised the design and the latest version has a black composite body. You can buy them here in Canada at the Ford dealer for just a bit over $200cad.

If you attempt to buy just the vacuum switch, be sure to search prices. I
did and found it priced from $29.39 to $67.

In the midst of that, I stumbled across what MIGHT be a good vacuum pump
for the GMC: AC 20804130 for $123.79 from RockAuto. It's supposed to fit:

I took one of those pumps apart:

I did not take the head apart as it was held together with a rivet a a
little voice in my head said "you better not mess with that!"

From the photo of the diaphragm side of the head I'd guess that the check
valves are rubber (black color like the diaphragm).

A number of people have mentioned "Dave's Manifold" so I thought I'd explain
what it is. It replaces the check valve that goes into the vacuum booster
that has a port that you can screw the vacuum pump control switch into which
senses the "pressure" inside the booster. It has a very good seal and as
long as the booster itself is leak tight the pump will not run as
frequently.

The same thing can be accomplished by welding a female pipe fitting into the
cover of the booster and screwing the control switch into it.

Problem is you need a special tool to remove that cover (see the Maintenance
Manual).

His recommended alternative would probably be to insert a "broken" check valve into a single-ported booster and then use plumbing and in-line check
valves to accomplish the same thing but much more "kludgey" looking.

I went looking yesterday when some say that you can get that pump on Ebay or in Canada from a Ford deal and never found any in stock and there were notices posted on some of the website that this vacuum pump was no longer. If I am wrong post a shortcut or link to one for sale. When talking with Dave last summer I suggested that it might be good to use 2 of the Delco vacuum pumps in parallel to provide almost the same capacity as the Ford vacuum. I did look up the pump use on the 2012 V6 Ford 150 and the picture on the Rock auto website was not the same. If I am wrong again show me a link or shortcut. Just what everyone to know what is available.
