John,

When you get up tomorrow morning, read Arch's post again. "Hatred"? - I
didn't read into it anything of the kind. "Balance"? - The best way to
balance the opinions of Wes on this list would be for Wes to come here
himself and defend his own opinions. Have you ever wondered why he
doesn't? Busy man I guess - but I do know that he has time to read the
archives.

I have to agree that lately his "newsletter" has seemed like 2/3 ringing
endorsement for products that he carries and 1/3 knocking other people's
products. Keep in mind that this ain't "Consumer Reports" we're talking
about. Publications owned by one person with the editorial board
consisting of that same person are always of questionable objectivity.
I've subscribed to Wes' quarterly from the beginning and I've definitely
noticed a change in tone.

Yes, Wes has done much good in supporting the GMC and sells some very
good products and I certainly hope that he's made a reasonable amount of
money doing so. That said, this is no boy's club. You, Zak, Arch, Wes
and anyone else with an interest in GMC's is welcome to share their
opinions here. Certainly the price of admission shouldn't keep anyone
away.

I read Arch's post as an explanation of why he(and presumably others) no
longer views Wes as the "final authority" on GMC's. Yours looked more
like a personal attack on Arch.

I guess balance is in the eye of the beholder...
My opinions, worth the price,
Patrick

Arch...

Take one of those blue pills they have now... I just suggested a little
balance was in order on this reflector. Zak at least conceded Wes has
done some good, but your tirade was all negative... reflecting almost a
hatred. Good Grief! and good night...

Patrick...

Personal Attack? NO but...
I requested some balance after listening to 8 months of carping about Wes
and in return, I got a ~ 40 line self-serving tirade, prefaced by ~ "I
don't want to fight with you..., John."

Wes is not a threat, he is a resource for information, parts, service,
and or advice if anyone wants to take advantage of it, if not fine too.

I guess I should say I have no affiliation with him to allay any
suspicions. But really, the attitude of a few here seems unnecessarily
hostile toward him. I didn't realize this was such a hot button with
Arch, but it obviously is. One of the characteristics of a cult is
demonizing outsiders and I think some thought should be given to
considering that and some of these comments about Wes are starting to
sound a little psycophantic.

I agree whole heartedly with this statement of yours, Rick:

Boy can we ever get fired up fast!

I have talked to Wes several times and found him to be a very knowledgable
and thoughtful individual. Remember however that he now represents General
Motors in matters concerning the GMC motorhome. In this capacity he has no
choice but to recommend only authorized parts and modifications to the
coach. To do other wise would subject him, his company, and General Motors
(the deepest pockets) to possible legal actions from any yahoo that hurts
himself or others by improperly applying the modifications or parts it to
his coach.

When you read his remarks it the cinnabar publication keep this in mind.
Its called liability, pure and simple.

In my case I look at every suggested change to the coach from the following
perspective.
1. Is it safe to use.
2. Can it be reversed to the original configuration if necessary in the future.
3. Will I be able to get parts in the future, WHEN I NEED THEM AND WHERE I
NEED THEM.
4. Does it improve some aspect of the coach enough to justify the cost.
