Now that I have read the on-going comments about the Winegard Satellite
Installation, I am beginning to think that I made a bad purchase.

The system that I purchased at Camping World is the Winegard RD-4610.
Winegard crank up RV digital satellite system with
off-air mount attachment.
One mount and one install.
Features:
- - Winegard Manual Crank
- - Mounting plate included

It can be seen at http://www.warren-supply.com/warren/mob/off-air.htm.

Has anyone actually installed this exact antenna in the area above and
behind the drivers seat?

Tom,

We have never been in a situation at the races where trees blocked our dish
at the races. There may not be as many trees as a campground, but there
are usually trees around. IMHO, the extra height you gain from the roof of
the motorhome gives you an advantage over the tripod unless you want to
mount the tripod a very large distance away from your motorhome. If you
are confined to a campsite spot, then I don't think the tripod is going to
give you much leeway, especially at a busy campground. Then you even have
to worry about motorhomes being in the way since the tripod is on the
ground. The best thing about having a dish that can be operated from
inside is putting it up in rain/wind/snow/etc and watching the others with
their tripods braving the elements or going without their dish :). With an
inside dish, aiming is a one person inside job since you can see the TV
while aiming.

One thing I have noticed with the RCA receivers is that the older ones seem
much easier to aim than the newer ones. We have an older version and the
signal is reported instantly on the TV if you find it. A friend has a
newer version, and you have to wait for the next beep before the signal
comes up on the TV. This takes much more time.
