Another Vin Question

Hi all and thanks for the help in advance.

Got a TZE165V101129 that I bought in New Mexico and was tilted as a 1976

Transferred title in Nevada (where I live) and the call it a 1979-did not
see this mistake till after I got my docs in the mail.

Before I go to the DMV to get things fixed I want to know if I should really
try and get it registered as a 1975?

A 75 would not need emission testing if you were to relocate to an area the
requires testing.

Robert,

As a Californian, a 1975 is worth more than a 76 or newer. This is due to
California's smog check laws. Vehicles 1975 or older are exempt from a
bi-annual smog check. This same law prohibits 76 and newer vehicles from any
modifications, including headers, fuel injection, etc. If it's 1975 or older
you can do whatever you'd like to it.

So it may not matter to you now in Nevada, but changing it to a 1975 could
increase the resale value and market down the road.

I would go for 1975 because in CA and I would think that other states may
as well 1975 does not need smog check while a 76 would.

It might be to your advantage to get it corrected just in case of future emissions testing. Arizona goes all the way back to 1967, but California (I
think) cuts it off at 1975. Not sure if Nevada has emissions testing, but if they do, or enact it in the future, you might not have to test a '75 yet
might have to test a '79.

From what I know and experiaced with customers coaches, there are more to
consider than Smog issue as any coach that is mechanicly sound will pass
the test.
I have assisted many every year get it done by the book.
When I appraise a coach, a 76 is worth mor than the 75 on thenaverage as I
do not consider the smog issue.
Contrary to belief that an engine must run lean to pass the test is
incorrrect. Lean will cause a miss fire and fail.

Get it fixed while you can. With the BMV it might take a while. As an example I have a male friend whose first name is Terry. His renewal driver's
license arrived in the mail listing him as female. it took him 6 years to get it corrected with the BMV.

My 1976 GMC as listed by New Mexico that became a 1979 thanks to the Nevada DMV
is now a 1975 according to the DMV here in Nevada as of today. Only took about 2 hours
to get it fixed so I guess I better go change my Sig file now.
