I've been watching the tire talk with considerable interest- I'm buying
tires for my Chevy 3/4 ton Crew Cab truck soon.
OEM was 9.50 16.5D BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials. A "D" tire in stock size
is absolutely at the limit of capacity on this truck, if I have it loaded to
full GVW, at 5560 LBS on the rear axle, 8200 total. The one ton version of
my truck uses a E load range tire, and carries 800 lbs more.
In any event, while shopping, I've been looking at the prospect of changing
to 16" rims (Alcoas, likely) and slightly wider better looking tires- found
a really interesting one!
BF Goodrich SportTruck TA HR4
345-55R16/D
fits 10-12" rims, 14.2" wide shoulder to shoulder, and...
130 MPH speed rating.
All this as well as 2755 lbs load capacity at 50 PSI.
I'd say they probably arent the cats pajamas for the GMC, but if a person
wanted to make the most of the 3.07 axle and has a 650 HP 455, might be
useful Autobahn, anyone?
The product # at BFG is 64914, if you're curious
