Netters:
Here's some tidbits gleaned from an column titled "Stop the Enviro-Madness"
in the current Mopar Collector's Guide regarding alternative automotive
refrigerants:
- -----------------------------
Duracool 12A -- compatible with R134A *and* R12. 300 degree higher flash
point than R134A. Used extensively in Europe, Australia and Canada, but
for some reason the EPA refuses to certify automotive use here in the USA,
some say due to political pressure by Dupont. ~~ Duracool *is* certified
as an "industrial" refrigerant here though ~~ (wink wink)

- ----------------------------
An interesting aside is that when R134A does burn, it produces hydrogen
phosphene, or the infamous "mustard gas" of WWI, according to the column.
- ----------------------------
Freeze 12 -- An R-12 replacement. Essentially R134A with some R142B mixed
in. Fill and drain fittings must be changed. If there is a positive
relief valve in the system, you'll need a new high pressure cutout switch
from the below source. F-12 is 10% more efficient than R-12, so requires
less refrigerant. Since most auto shops are only equipped to deal with
R134A or R12, a special recovery tank may be required for F-12.
