Allowable Tread Depth

Does anyone know where I can get info on minimum tread depth on our tires>
I have looked at the Michelin web site and all over the net. I can't tell by
eyeballing. I won't hesitate to replace the fronts (the ones in question) if
it's time, on the other hand, in spite of what the War Department thinks, I
am not looking for a excuse to spend money either. The tires do not seems to
be weathered and the wear is very even.

> 3/32nd of an inch is generally the limit. The old trick of inserting a
Lincoln penny head first into the tread still works. If you cover any
part of his head you have more than 3/32nds.

Personnaly, I would look at the dates regardless of how much tread you
have. 5 years or older, send them to the recycle bin!

The problem is usually age,... over 5 years old and you are at risk. Not
many of us get to wear them out, only Dallas.

DOT requires 4/32 inch on front tires on trucks and 2/32 on rears. Thus good
fronts can be moved to the rear to get some more wear. I personally do not
recommend recaps on the GMC because of the damage that can be done if a cap
comes off.
