Thanks Emery! Too much changes in a years' time to rely on my memory of a
breakfast conversation. Looks like even the gurus can fall victim to
misinformation too.

I just did a little research on this allison question...

Let me take back the question I raised (with a question mark ) dragging
Patrick into this... I'm not sure it came from or via Patrick at all now...
because this is what my research turned up. This is a copy and paste from Dick's
web page a few minutes ago and must have been written before he found out about
the various Allison's

. We have pro-built H.D. transmissions including the scarce switchpitch units. We
carry a heavy duty 13 inch torque converter that is rebuilt to our specs; using
the best components and processes available (not an Allison).

Oh no dragging necessary - I'm guility for sure! I posted a note in
response to a question concerning torque converters back last year after the
Marion, NC GMCMI rally. Basically Dick recounted the conversation exactly
as I remembered it - that the Allison made his GMC drive like a "city bus".
I stated the recent caveat because I was concerned someone would make a
buying decision based on my recollection of a breakfast conversation over a
year ago. Things change and this is an obvious example of how they can
change.

Yep - Dick didn't say how recent a revelation this was in his response to
Emery. BTW, don't construe any of this as criticism of Dick Paterson. He's
a prince of a guy and obviously willing to admit making a mistake.

I can second that, he was very helpful to me personally on more than one
occasion.

I think it is useful that this came up because anyone faced with a replacement
has a lot to think about, and obviously just any Allison won't do. Unless you
like GMC busses.
