Finally got the Alcoa rims into Houston......and after 2 days of phone
calls, think I'm finally clear on requirements for motorhome use. But to
quote the Grateful Dead: "What a long, strange trip it's been!"
What impressed me was the amount of mis-information available...
The rims shipped are fine (Classic 160231), but the center caps and nuts
were the wrong. Exchanged the center caps for the right size without a
problem; was pleased to see stuffed inside a cap a spec sheet with part
numbers for Alcoa wheel parts. Best of all: a number for
Alcoa.....1-800-242-9898
Marked all over my Alcoa rim box is the warning NOT to use chromeplated lug
nuts ...but McGards - chromed nuts - were shipped to me. Called Alcoa
direct: was told using McGards would negate any warranty on the rims, as
the Alcoa recommended nut is one with a cap.....which proponents of the
McGard tell me has a problem of loosing it's cap.....which Alcoa contact
negates as being a problem on big trucks, not RV's.....
Made the decision to go with the Alcoa recommended nut (PN) and one
of 4 options for a nutcap, the Alcoa recommended "hug-a-lug" cap.
Whew! Hope this is the end of it.
