Hi Netters

I'm going to hang an alcoa wheel on the spare tire rack. I'm wondering how
to attach all the lug nut covers when there's only 3 studs. I'm pretty
sure I've seen this done but can't remember where. I'm thinking there's
probably a better way than to drill and press studs through the bracket
just for appearance sake.

Any ideas?

Thanks
bdub

Yes, but I'm going to cut the center out so as to display the beautiful
wheel. The tire will be covered.

bdub, when I had my spare mounted like that, I just went to the hardware store
and bought 5 9/16 bolts about inch and a half long and used 5 extra lug nuts and
bolted them through the wheel and put the lug nut covers on them. Worked for me

Thanks Pat

I thought of that, but then thought that the heads of the bolts would
interfere with the mounting plate.

I just got the wheels this evening and haven't even taken the old spare
down yet. It just sounds way too simple though. :-) I guess I can
handle simple.

Thanks again

Hi Billy M,
I plan on doing the same thing when I get my Alcoas. But, I was wondering how
to secure it so it isn't stolen! Any ideas? Skip in Western Maryland

Although in your part of the world it's probably not a
problem, you might think about what kind of locking
mechanism might work for you. You may be guaranteed
that as beautiful as that wheel is to you, it's at least that
beautiful to someone who appreciates it only for its cash
value. Alchemists were never able to turn lead into gold,
but we all know how fast rubber and aluminum can turn
into green paper or ingestible powders.

I keep my spare Alcoa inside and locked up if we're not
actually on the road. (Haven't got a locking system yet.)

Sure would hate for you to lose $500 worth of tire and
wheel . . . .

Billy & Toby - you can buy a spare tire lock which has a special nut
with a groove in it and a cover that goes over it that has a key
lock. I have one of these on my Jeep spare.

The other thing that can be done is to drill a hole in the mounting
plate at the center and put a bolt through the hole with a small flat
bar over the outside of the tire and put a small padlock through a
hole drilled through the side of the bolt.
