Dear Roger, Tony,Travis and Stacy,
Thanks so much for your response. I have looked closely but can not find a
switch inside the coach. Only switch is the key-operated switch outside the
vehicle. If the system were operating properly and it was armed and ready,
what activates, or sets it off?? Opening the door, breaking a glass, trying
to start the engine??
Stacy----Removed the P-C board, the only wording I could fine was "JMG 201
C" . Did find a Pin switch on the hood, passenger side. It had been
disconnected. Could this have been what sets off the alarm??

I'm no alarm expert, but it seems unlikely that one switch is what set off
the alarm. That may have been for the under hood light that is above the
vehicle battery (or at least it is on my 75PB). Why would they have only
protected that one door? Usually if it is the kind of alarm that is set off
by opening a door, there will be pin switches on all doors.

Most alarms I have seen either monitor doors for opening via pin switches,
monitor for motion via mercury switches or similar, monitor for breaking
glass by watching motion or having sound sensors, monitor for electrical
tampering by monitoring line voltage, or are starter interrupters, or a
combination of any or all.

Perhaps this one was a starter interrupt switch (???)which has since been
disconnected. As I said at the outset, I'm no expert, but I have torn apart
my share of cars, some with alarms. I found the best solution was to tear
out what was there and start from scratch (if I still even wanted an alarm)
Perhaps this has been my solution because by the time I get most cars, they
aren't worth alarming because no one else wants them.

Neely,

Count the wires going into the unit - power, ground, key switch, horn,
anything else?
If there are no additional inputs, it either has a built-in motion sensor or
voltage sensing circuit that relies on a light coming on when a compartment
door is opened.
I'm all for keeping old things alive, but if you want a reliable alarm
system get a new one with a wireless remote
( I have "Prestige" systems in three of my vehicles, and will install one in
the GMC. I realize they aren't top of the line but thy are reasonably priced
and haven't given me any trouble).

Peter,
Wires from the P-C board, one to switch, one to ground, two (a pair) to horn
and one (yellow) disappears into a harness. I am not wanting an alarm
system all that bad but I thought if I had one and if it could be made
operative without too much trouble or expense I would give it a go. Thanks
so much.

I assume the other terminal of the key switch is connected to battery
positive making that the power supply to the alarm. Make sure you have good
power and ground to the module.
Disconnect the yellow wire and see if the alarm still goes off - Check the
(disconnected) yellow wire with a Volt/Ohm meter (or a testlight) - is it
connected to ground,
12V (also test it with the ignition on), or nothing at all?
If it doesn't get power or ground, connect the other end of it (coming out
of the module) to a good ground and see what happens (make sure the power
supply to the module is fused, just to be on the safe side!)

That number didn't ring any bells with me. The single wire pin switches sent
a signal to the control by grounding to negative when opened, so if the wire
was disconnected and not touching ground it shouldn't have been the cause of
the alarm. All of the current sensing (dome light) types of alarms that I
ever worked with could be armed without incident even with the door open as
long as nothing changed (shutting the door). When the foriegn cars started
using cooling fans that came on any time they felt like it, even with the
key off, the current sensing alarms became a real pain. I can't recall ever
seeing an alarm with a key switch and another switch for arming/disarming. I
worked in the professional alarm field not the car audio stuff. I have
installed a few systems in motorhomes over the years. At one time we had the
same stuff available to us through channels, but the units from the car
audio places now are alot better than they used to be (my choice).

The other terminal from the key-switch is connected to Positive batt. It is
dark now so will have to wait until tomorrow to test further. I will cut
the yellow wire and see what happens, check for voltage. I wonder what type
of device triggers the system. It cannot be a pin-switch on door because
there is none except switch for tel-tale light for door- ajar.

I had hopped that you could have identified the unit by the numbers I gave
you, so we might have secured, an owner's manual or some other information.
No such luck

Neeley, the pin switch under the hood on the passenger side was most likely
for the light that was originally installed on the firewall on the passenger
side. It came on automatically when the passenger side hood was opened. Unless
the alarm system is a rather recent and modern one. chances are that the only
thing that sets it off is opening the entry door. Sometimes these alarm systems
utilized the pin switch already installed in the entry door for the "door
open"alarm. This is not what I know, but rather what I think.
