Definitely some high end stuff there! I'm sure the first version will be $$$$ then it will come down.

Interesting concept. Wonder how much this will add to the price of a new travel trailer?

Why would you think that? It's an Airstream.

$60,000 for a single axle 18' trailer is just normal for them.

I do like the idea of electric towing assist.

Imagine that for a toad, instead of having the lightest manual transmission rat box you can find you could have a substantial four door car back
there pushing itself along, assisting the coach on hill climbs.

With the car following a wind blocking motorhome and accelerating like a city bus the range would be doubled or tripled.

It's gonna take a lot of Adderall to get this thing right.

Saw a new Airstream a while back on a RV dealership corner sales promotion
price of just $98,000.00. And you will still need an $80, 000 Ford F-250 to
drag it around. Just think of the GMC you could build for that kind of
money. I am happy with my 78 Royale.

If they finally bring it to market a future GMCer will be adapting it to a rear axle of a GMC motor home. A GMCer with loads of money that is!
They better hurry or a lot of us won’t be around to see it.

Some good stuff, I did not see how they address battery thermal management or human thermal management as no visible roof top or bay mounted heat
pumps. Also no regenerative braking mentioned (stability control was) or recharge under tow if you have like a Duramax tow vehicle.

The article in the second link mentions that the AC is mounted under the floor for aerodynamics. It also says that it has a regenerative breaking
system. It cites these numbers from a different camper prototype running similar gear...

My journey into the GMC world came about because even a medium size pop-up requires a pretty huge daily driver to tow it around. You have to get
family, trailer, batteries and gear under 3500 lbs to be in minivan, or Subaru territory.

Even without the coming wave of EVs I think it's great that the camping industry is tackling this.

I love the idea of replacing my Fiat 500 towd with a 6ft storage trailer that could power assist in the mud, help break the coach to recapture volts,
and store 5 nights of air-conditioning. Throw a couple of E-bikes in there to get around, and once unloaded it's a spare bedroom for the kids. Of
course, if the hardware / software is worked out an electric towd might be able to do the same job.

Given that the salary for high-tech employees is now in the 300K range, the cost/technology/production phase/typical RV purchase age/affordability
curves should intersect in, maybe, ~ 5
years?

I think the first accessory will be a driver's seat on the hitch.

I don't know what IT employees you refer to @ $300K, but I don't have any
of those folks in my circle of acquaintance. That is some heavy salary.
$100, 000.00 + for an RV that will likely spend 75% of its lifetime in
a storage lot, is a big leap for most people.
But, I grew up in a time when you could buy a 1/2 ton Chev pickup for
under $2000.00, sans rear bumper and passenger side windshield wiper. But,
today you can spend over $100,000.00 for one.
Guess I will stick with my 1969 Dodge Camper Special 3/4 ton pickup
with a utility box, and corner 3500# lifting gantry. I bought it from the
original owner in 1972, and been driving it ever since. And my 1978 GMC
Royale 26'.

I like the idea. Needs better intergration with the tow vehicle. Charge point is low and should be moved to a normal height.

Me neither, but...."Amazon raises its base salary cap from $160K to $350K".

Twenty years ago I worked with them as a consultant and they asked me to come work for them directly; that was the reason I didn't.
