GMCers,
Today was the end for my air tank. I'm not going to repair it again.
I just checked Gene's site & Patrick's site and cannot find a source for
exact replacement tanks. Any help?
TIA,
Steve F.

I, too have Jim's airtank (and hot water tank). A work of art. Stop messing
with old rotted out steel tanks and replace with his stainless tank, and the
upgrades from Cinnebar, if you don't already have them. If you have the
2-bag air system, also order Jim's air bag protectors. I wish I had before I
installed shut-off valves.

I made my own air tank out of 4" SCH40 PVC pipe. I glued on end caps and
then drilled and tapped for the fittings. I located the tank betwen the
frame rails. I made it large enough that I have enough volume to inflate
a tire. If more air is wanted make two. I used 3/4" SCH40 pipe in my
garage to run the air lines from my compressor. I have air drops on all
the walls for under $30.00.

I too have a 4" PVC tank. It's about 4' long and located under the
streetside twin bed with the Thomas 317 conpressor. It takes about 3
minutes to pump up if the system has been let down for leveling. I also
tee'd in a coupler in the wheel well and carry a 50' air hose in case
anyone needs air.

What is the pressure rating on that pipe? How much pressure do you put in
it???

IIRC, it was 450 psi. What ever it was, it's marked all along the pipe and
it was at least twice the capacity of the Thomas. HTH

Fortunately, my compressor and tank are in a cool place (beside the rear
wheel well and under a bed). I doubt the temperature ever gets above 75 in
there. But if I was worried about it, couldn't I just add a 160# pressure
relief valve?

Thanks Guys,
I work with PVC all the time. Never thought to use it as an airtank.
Thanks for the info.

My '76 has EL1--the compressor & tank are mounted on the backside of the
left wheel well in the bottom portion of the closet. Guess it's different
than the normal configuration. I like it, 'cuz it's one thing I haven't had
to work on....yet. I flip the switch & it goes up/down like it's supposed
to. When I do replace components, I'll probably use a 110 volt compressor &
20 gallon tank. I am always close to AC & have the Onan & like to use my
air tools. When I first got my coach, I was disturbed by that awful noise
in the back--I opened the access door & like to have fell over laughing when
I saw that compressor. Reminded me of an .049 model airplane engine. I
wouldn't call that an air "tank"..more like a buffer...as in "printer
buffer."

80 degrees tomorrow--will work on GMC

My 76 was made Nov 75. I have Power Level. Air tank is the large one
mounted on drivers side along with compressor.

Ditto on everything you said Arch. Mines the same!
