Is the Harbor Freight air/hydraulics riveter worth the $70 - 20% + 10%? I am installing a awning.

I would be wary. I have no experience with the harbor freight rivet gun, all i remember when doing my awning the pop rivets were steel shanked
closed end rivets and they popped hard. I has a quality air rivet gun borrowed from work that worked great for me, but there are alot of rivets to
place and i would worry about any slippage of the rivet.

I personally would rent a rivet gun, But let us know how it works either way.

If you know anyone at a local airport you might be able to borrow one. Aircraft have thousands of rivets and every mechanic has several of them
including non-powered hand rivet squeezers.

Link?

The air riveter I bought from them has been worth every penny. I have used
it a lot, and with the number of rivets I've installed, would probably be
crippled had I used a hand-riveter.

This is the one I bought:

If I'm reading your $70 amount right, that's the 1/4" version of the same
design. Probably has a bigger can to provide a harder pull. I have never
needed 1/4" rivets, so I got the smaller one.

I have one and use it fairly often. It works fine for my uses. I always use aluminum rivets though.
I use 3/16 rivets usually. It will occasionally slip on the shank, but that's no big deal you just push it down and hit it again.

With regard to Harbor Frieght - I get their mailings and discount coupons. Lately, their discount catalog will have a reduction for something and
list its part number and then 'Part Number XxXxX shown', which will be a different part number than the sale item. Id this the old bait n switch?

No,
They have multiple part numbers for the same product.
We use their paint guns here at work as disposables, and there are no less than 6 part numbers for the same exact gun.

I have used both their air rivet gun and their 'heavy duty' two handled rivet gun with great success setting rivets as large as 1/4" steel. The air powered rivet gun needs to have a large volume of 80 PSI air to work as expected. Be sure to use a full size air hose.
For our purposes, be sure to get quality rivets. My goto supplier is McMaster Carr www.mcmaster.com

Johnny,

I do not believe it is. On occasion, I have seen the same item in the pin with the different part number, but the same price and sometimes the
packaging is different. It may just be their way of separating suppliers. This was clear when I bought the 3 ton floor jack. Two part numbers, both
on the shelf, but one weighed 8# more.
