I just installed a Duo-Therm by Dometic, the model numbers is the Quick
Cool 15000 btu unit. It was recommended by Buskirks as a direct
replacement. It provides more cooling and the need for a second unit in
really not necessary. Took me about 2 hours to remove and replace my
old unit. If you removing and old unit you will find a sticky black
sealant used to seal the roof mounts. This needs to be removed before
setting the new unit. Kerosene will cut it with no problems. I then
cleaned and polished and waxed the are under the unit before I installed
the new unit. Seems to work great, more cooling with less power usage.
The unit looks alot like the old unit.

That sounds like a great recommendation...

I heard it said, replacing those things are not a one man job. What are
your comments on the degree of difficulty.

John,
No, it is not a one man operation. The trick is getting up on the roof
and getting the old one down. I had a friend come over and we used two
ladders along with several rugs to prevent scratching of the GMC & AC
unit. Just slid it up the ladders and slid the old unit down. The old
unit was somewhat heavier than the new one. The inside ceiling panel
opening is cut to allow the inside parts to slide from behind the
ceiling panel with out damaging the headliner, unless you have replaced
the headliner and not kept the original outline of the headliner.
Anyway you can see it when you get it apart.
