I know this is an old subject, but haven't had time to jump in until now. When
I bought my coach last December the compressor was very slow to pump up. When
it got colder, it ran, but stopped making pressure. This spring I pulled it and
found that someone had previously rebuilt it and put the silicone flapper valves
back in sideways- not vertical so gravity can help to close the valves. Also I
found that the valve plates were eroded in the sealing area quite badly. I put
some medium sandpaper on my flat table saw surface and started sanding the
surfaces flat. It took a lot of sanding and several layers of skin since the
valve plates are only about an eigth of an inch thick and are hard to grip.
After cleaning everything and reassembling, the compressor works great now.
Didn't cost a thing except some time and elbow grease. It's nice to be able to
effectively restore something so simply once in a while.
