Air Bags

Gateway has 'em at $199 without cones! Put my new ones on yesterday. What a fight it was to get the new ones over the cones!!

I think the $199 Gateway bags were without the cones. I just spoke to
Max at Buskirk's, he said they only stock the bags WITH the cones
already attached because its such a hassle to install the bags on the
cones. Current price is $250 per bag, may be a small price increase from
Firestone soon.

Bob, do your "Cinnabags" have the cones attached?

Gateway and Buskirks are about $100 less for just the Bags.

I just paid $294 plus taxes for one air bag from a Western Fleet Supply in
Tacoma, WA, agent for Firestone. This bag has black PLASTIC cones. My
original was aluminum. What's the skinny on this? Anybody know???

Bill,

I believe that the new aluminum cones are plastic coated to prevent
corrosion. Ours are not, but I seem to remember reading it here a while
back. The aluminum cones have some thin support braces from the inner
circle part of the cone to the outer circle part of the cone. The plastic
ones do not. Your other alternative would be to scratch the cone and see
if it is a coating or not.

The plastic cones will degrade over time and self-destruct (mine did!). A
better way to check if plastic or alum is to do a two point probe with an
ohmmeter for conductivity. Al will give a reading and plastic will not. If
you've been shipped plastic cones, contact the supplier and ask them what's
up with that and if they can't assure that the cones they supplied will
outlive the bags, tell them you want aluminum.

I'll add to the other comments. The plastic cones have known to break.
Use Alum ones.

I lost my emails about Frank F's group purchase for air bags - is it still
being pursued? I could use a set - add me to the list.
